Oakville Flag-Raising Marks 35th Anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence
OAKVILLE, ON – August 24th, 2026 – Neighbours of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral and St. Joseph’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, along with the Town of Oakville, invite the public to a joint flag-raising event on the grounds of the St. Volodymyr Event Centre.
The ceremony officially commemorates Ukraine's milestone 35th year of independence.
It also celebrates the long-standing, unique collaboration between the two neighbouring congregations and the Town of Oakville.

Event Highlights:
35th Anniversary: Marking 35 years since the 1991 Declaration of Independence.
Official Proclamation: Mayor Rob Burton will read an official town proclamation.
Dress & Spirit: The public is urged to wear a Vyshyvanka and bring a flag.
Historic Photo: A massive community group photo will be shot right after the ceremony.
